Final Post April Eighth, 1928 due 4/19 2016

With your final comments, address the overall book as well as this last chapter. Use these questions as a quideline: With each section the narrative voice becomes more coherent, and we finish with a fairly straightforward and traditional third-person voice. Why do you think Faulkner has chosen to present things in this way and in this order? What is the effect on the narration? What would you say this novel is "about"? Think again about the Macbeth quotation—"[life] is a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing." What does Faulkner's tale, told four times, signify? All your blog comments on your classmates blogs are due by 4/22

Quentin chapter June 2, 1910 Post #3 due 4/11 2016

Reflect on your reading of this chapter and include answers to these questions: Does Quentin maintain a clear sense of the "I"? How and why does Quentin's narration become confusing to the reader? What does Quentin's narration suggest about his mental state?

Benjy's chapter April 7, 1928 Post#2-due 4/5, 2016

In your second post include reflection on these questions: Why do you think Faulkner begins the novel with such a disorienting chapter? Finally, consider Benjy's status as a member of the Compson household. Consider the date - April Seventh, 1928, the Saturday before Easter day—and Benjy's age—33, the age of Christ upon crucifixion. What role does Benjy play in the Compson family? What does his unique perspective show us about the Compsons? What might Benjy's need for consistency, and his extremely strong nostalgia for the past say about the concept of family? About the South as a place? Does Benjy fulfill a symbolic role in the novel?

Setting up your blog and Post#1 due Mar.22, 2016

Using Blogger set up your reading response journal. Make sure you make it public and that you moderate the comments. Read the Lesson 1: Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury and do Activity 1, blog about what you found out from your research. Reading Journal/Blog: Create a reading journal that you add to throughout your reading experience, noting details such as Faulkner's use of point of view, time, form, and character. In this blog, you should cite passages and raise questions for class discussion in comment section. In the first chapter, for example, you might remark on the golf course, the cries of "Caddy" that stir Benjy's memory, his first memory in 1898 of Damuddy's death, and so on. Make note of your questions, but push through the each chapter. But note specific questions in my second post, Benjy's chapter "
